Re: Lift out bridge

I agree with Adrian and Steve.  It would be extremely useful during setup and teardown.  And would give us a more user friendly and better defined entrance/exit during the show hours.  Bet it would save valuable time during setup -- and some aching backs on us geezers.

I have three each 28" wide by 4 feet long sections of 1/2 inch plywood left over from building the 45 degree corners.  Also enough "already ripped to club size" 1 by 3's  eight feet long to build three standard linear modules.  And all the wire and jones plugs we would need.  And I still have a half gallon of "club approved" green paint. And I have enough foam roadbed like we used on the 45 degree corners to do a 4 or 5 track linear 4 ft module.   And I can spare 4 ft of velco roll which I recently purchased for other projects.

If the approved design would work out so we can use this material, I'll gladly donate it to the club.  All we would need is track and pocket hardware at the club's expense.  And maybe some other items needed to do a nifty job on the lift out.  Bet we could build it for under $100 plus track.

Hope the club decides to do this.

I agree that we would want to prohibit use during formal run times.

It would be nice to have during setup.

This is one of those projects that seem to keep coming up from time to time. I agree with Scott about going in and out during operating time being a problem. For Fun Run’s we can do whatever we like but for shows we need to keep the trains running. That means that this could only be used in the morning before the show opened or in the evening after the show closed. Even with that limitation I believe that this would be beneficial in that when it is open it would make it much easier to load boxes in and out and also be used during layout set-up. This would also make a well defined location for members to enter or exit the layout and to pass boxes through without worrying about catching a low hanging wire.

Over the years as we have thought about this possibility, I have always felt that it would be nice to keep from crawling under the layout but concerned about the interlocks to keep trains from going through the open section and the likelihood that all tracks would need to stop for the bridge to open, and that when we are at a show, there can be 15 of us around going in and out all the time and the time the bridge would take away from operating time. Also when running long trains, the stopping distance changes.
