All,  from my research, it looked like building a drop away access port would be much easier than a lift up bridge.  The reason is that you don't have to worry about the tracks on the hinged sides binding.  I'll try to illustrate this.

You need to make the module with the hinge on it at an angle on it on the side opposite the hinge.  You may also need to cut the track at an angle.

The guy is a bit of a doofus, but he used an unusual piano hinge for his passageway.  Looks like he cut it to make space for the track.
