Re: TTAT Historical Documents

As a relatively new guy to the club, one year this month,  I'm really enjoying this thread on the club history!  I think it helps us new guys better appreciate all the hard work you veterans,  and others who have gone before us,  some no longer with us, have put into making the club and layouts what they are today.  Thanks.  Bill

I would say fall of 91 is when we organized.

Haha, no that was Brian and Jenny, Scott's kids. I was around 15 at the time. You can barely see me in the distance siting down running a train at the end of the New Braunfels video. Thats my dad in the red bigboy shirt.

Bob Howard is with Jim Smiley in the construction of a module video. Roger Keith is the tall bald guy in the video. Jim Carey is the short guy in overalls with the beard. Scott's mom is in the train ride video with Jim. She painted a lot of our sky boards and made the blue skirting. They've all passed away since.

So should we claim the club was founded in 1991 or 1992?

Ricky, was the kid running around inside the layout you?

Ed

According to Jim's write up we had our first workday in February of 1992 and our first Fun Run in March of 92. I remember that we had several meetings prior to that in 1991 discussing how to build the layout and how organize the club. Of the original members Scott, Jim, my dad and myself are the only ones still involved with the club.

Thanks Ira for posting all that and thanks to Scott for digging it up. It was nice seeing Bob Howard, Roger Keith, Jim Carey and Scott's mom again in those old videos.

Ricky

Thanks, Ira.
This history adds a lot for me.

Based on the document (I think it was written by Jim Smiley)  it sounds like they had a full layout at the Austin Jamboree in October of 1992 so they had to have started by at least spring of 1992.

The club will be 20 years old pretty soon.

Hi all,

I added a new section to the members area of the TTAT web site.

This section contains some historical documents from the early days of the club.
They include a brief history of the club, a copy of the 1991 national Tinplate Trackers
manual, and videos from a VHS video tape taken in 1993.

If anyone has any other old Tinplate Trackers documents, please send them to me
and I will add them to the web site.

Enjoy.

Ira
