train
Nothing will run forever without some maintenance. A "can" motor engine
will require the least maintenance. You will only have to lubricate the
wheel axles and gears every several days, maybe as much as a week. This
can usually be done without taking anything apart, just turn it over and
oil. A fine tip or needle works best.
You need to decide if you want a sound system in the engine, bell,
whistle but most of all the chug of an engine.
Trains do not look good on their underside if you can see them at all
through the track. Above the crowd is only good from a distance.
Use track with as long of pieces as possible, sound insulate under it if
uniformly supported. Some of the newer tracks provide more realistic
appearance but the old standby, tubular track has the most variety of
length and curve.
Lionel, Kline, MTH, Williams, all make can motor engines which should
perform equally.
