Several followup points to Ed's message.
In discussions about heavy use engines, regular lubrication is most critical.
I saw a video about a museum in PA that oiled their engines almost every
evening. I believe those trains were running 12 plus hours per day. I was
also surprised to learn that they didn't not necessarily invest in the most
expensive equipment but don't remember the exact reason...initial cost,
maintenance, practical experience, etc.
I've had some experience with outside garden railroading and the similar
principles apply to your situation: flat and well connect track, wide radius
curves, no turnouts (can be problems for both maintenance and derailments),
several track power connections, regular track cleaning and no water features
(lots of maintenance).
