Re: various thoughts
Regarding passing sidings.
When we are setting up a train for tracks 2, 3 or 4, we should use the
sidings to make the transition as quickly as possible. Even long trains
can benefit from the sidings by working with the next on the track. For
long trains, longer than the siding, some cars should be dumped on to the
siding until the train running will fit or is only a little longer.
After these are removed, Then set up the new train at a length the siding
will handle. Then switch the trains. To make it longer, put cars on the
siding after the old train is removed and add them in. Once the train is
on the siding , the one done from running, it should be removed as
quickly as reasonable. This way the siding is can be used to add more
cars to the mainline or staging for a second train. Nearing the end of
the designated run time, the mainline train should be shortened enough so
it can be handled easily for the switch of operators.
