If you haven't heard yet the Union Pacific is celebrating 150 years with a special touring train. The good news is that the train is coming through Central Texas on its way to San Antonio. The bad news is that the steam locomotive, number 844, that was pulling the train was damaged this morning and will not be able to continue the trip. UP is sending their E-9 locomotives to fill in for the 844.
The train is making a flag stop in San Marcos this Thursday at 9:30 -10:00am. I am planning on opening up the O-Gauge train layout in San Marcos and running some trains as part of this event. The O-gauge layout is at the Amtrak station in San Marcos. If anyone is interested you are welcome to bring your trains to run on the layout. I will be boarding the UP train at 10:00 but I will leave the layout open for any TTAT members who are there so you can continue running trains after I leave. I will return later in the day. If you do plan to come to the event be aware that the city is closing all the streets around the station as the train will be blocking them (S. Guadalupe St. and S. LBJ St.) while it is stopped so get there early.
