Subject: volunteers for the UP 844, Saturday April
21 Folks,
Here is a little more information - see attachment
and original message below - about the brief visit of Union Pacific 844 on
Saturday April 21. It was sent by Ivan Jaime, PR Director of the UP here
in San Antonio. The train will be open to the public between 9 AM and 5
PM. We have been asked to be officially involved with monitoring the
expected crowds and being ready to provide information to the public about the
locomotive and the cars it is pulling. I have arranged with the good folks
at Sunset Station for a very limited number of Model Ts to be able to park in
the horse shoe drive at the front of their building. I actually intend to
take the museum's 1929 Ford Model A, which will allow me to carry some
volunteers to and from the museum or their cars if they have to park a distance
away, which is quite likely bearing in mind how bad parking is at this
location.
Anyhoo, please let me know - again if you have
already done so - if you are interested and available to get up close and
personal with this amazing piece of 1940s technology. I have been asked if
it would be possible for folks with Ts to have snaps taken with the UP 844 and I
am working that angle as best I can, but right now they have bigger fish to
fry.

ORIGINAL MESSAGE
Mi Amigo Hugh, We are ready for the public display of the steam train on Saturday April 21st. We would like to have at least 10 volunteers at all times, but we will take up to 20 or 30 if you have them. I will have some Union Pacific calendars and 150th Anniversary pins for Museum and T club volunteers in appreciation of their support. I can also arrange a private tour of the the train, including access to the cars that will be closed off to the public. I encourage you to share this opportunity with any other rail fans that you know may be interested. Please confirm with the names of folks that will volunteer on April 21st, so that I can arrange the tour and have enough pins and calendars for everyone. Thanks again!
