Re: DCS training

Hi Mike,

The best way to find out how to run a ProtoSound 2.0 engine on the layout to to
see me when I am there and I will walk you through the procedure.

Here are some tips:

1. The track has to be set up to run DCS. Turn off the power to the track. Find
the plug panel on the right side of the middle shelf of the power cart. Plug
the banana plug for your track into the jack for the TIU, not the jack for the TPC.
Ensure the power switch for the TIU (also on the same shelf) is in the On position.

2. Put your engine on the track and turn the power all the way up (using the Cab-1
controller). Make sure the MTH controller is turned on (if not, press and hold the
On/Off button until it turns on), and press the Read button. If it doesn't find your
    engine, follow step 3.

3. To add your engine to the MTH handheld, make sure there are no other ProtoSound 2.0
engines on any powered up track on the layout. Turn on the power to your track.
Press the Engine/Setup/Add Engine/Add MTH Engine buttons on the handheld. If
it finds your engine, you are in business. If not, try moving the engine closer to the
powered corner and try again. I usually have the best luck on track 3 (even though
I don't know why) but any track should work. The TIU doesn't receive any signals
from ProtoSound 2.0 engines when they are on a siding (even though I don't
know why), so make sure your engine is on a mainline track.

4. Once your engine is added to the MTH controller, it should remain in the controller.
However, the DCS system has a habit of assigning new addresses to engines it
adds so your engine may not be recognized (when pressing the Read button) if
it was readdressed on your home layout. You may have to add it again.

Good luck. I will be there sometime this afternoon so, if you are around, we can
try to run through this procedure with your engine.
