Railfan Weekend arriving Temple October 22-23

The Railroad and Heritage Museum invites all railroad enthusiasts to the 3rd Annual Railfan Weekend, Friday and Saturday, October 22-23. The weekend begins early Friday afternoon with a tour of Patriot Rail’s Temple facility (transportation provided) beginning at 12:30 PM. Afternoon programs will continue at the Museum to include round table discussions along with additional activities currently being arranged at press time.  We will conclude Friday with banquet dinner and special speaker, Mr. Ken Fitzgerald.

Mr. Fitzgerald currently lives Ft. Worth and photographs for Union Pacific Railroad. He will recount his experiences working with the Union Pacific steam crew during 844’s tour through Oklahoma and Texas in April of 2009. He will also discuss photo techniques and railfanning in today’s security conscious world.

On Saturday, we will travel to Hearne, TX and will join the dedication ceremonies and tour the newly restored Hearne depot. Our bus will then take us to the GATX tank car repair.

GATX based in Chicago owns over 165,000 cars and forty-eight maintenance centers across the United States. We will be visiting the largest of the forty-eight centers during our walking tour of the facility. A guide will take us through the various processes in repairing a tank car. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity that you will not want to miss.

Registration for Railfan Weekend is now open and is currently $60. You may register through Jeremy at the Museum (10 am – 4 pm, Tuesday-Saturday), through our website (www.rrhm.org), or by telephone at 254-298-5175.
