I have some 1000s. I'll bring them to NB. And I donate them to the club.
Now let me see if I can find them! ;-)

We had Ross Custom Switches (RCS) replace one switch machine when they refurbished
the turnouts. I thought it was the switch on track 3 on the non-controlled module
(which is what I think you are describing).
We also replaced one switch machine at the last show. It was on the controlled module,
but I don't remember which track it was.
The original switch machines all have screws which hold the wires in place. The screws
are easily stripped, leaving bad contacts with the control wires. Perhaps you found one of
the switch machines with a lose wire. Scott and I discussed this problem. Scott thinks we
can put some lock tight (or Elmer's glue) on the screws to hold them in place. The newer
switch machines (i.e. the two replacements) have wires soldered onto the circuit boards.
We don't have any extra Z-1000 switch machines. I have the two bad ones. I will look at them
and see if either one appears to work, but I doubt it. One is the one RCS replaced for
us. It wouldn't reliably switch to the straight through position. The other is the dead
switch machine which we replaced at the last show.
We need to examine the switch machines during setup for the next show and see if
we need to replace any others. They are all several years old and may be starting to
deteriorate.
