Status of Projects for Work Event
Hi Trackdrs
The following summarizes some items leading up to and to be accomplished during the Feb 2010 Work Event
The first three projects below when completed result in a totally upgraded Switching Yard with total plexiglass protection from yard thoat at one end thru yard modules to yard throat at other end. Several of you have had equipment damaged by taking the floor on these modules and with the plexiglass in place this should be a thing of the past. All yard track will now either be Ross switches or K-line shadow rail. New paint and Woodland Scenics vinyl roadbed on the ABCD and EF modules. Should really look nice and function very well.
Thanks go to David, Dave and Rick for all the hard work to this point. We plan to wind up all work and test the whole shebang late on Saturday or on Sunday if needed. Then purchase the plexiglass in time for using the new yard at New Braunfels.
New ABCD Yard Modules. Three new 2 X 4 ft yard modules with K-line shadow rail track, new vinyl roadbed, slots for plexiglass and brand new wiring harnesses have been built, painted and completed. The old modules remain intact. They were used to continuity test the wiring on the new ones. Plan is to test new ones with the Yard throats on Saturday late in conjunction with YT repairs.
Upgraded EF Yard Modules. The three existing "skinny" EF yard modules have been repainted. Vinyl roadbed and K-line shadow rail have been completed on two. One remains to be completed no later than work day. Reusing existing wiring harnesses except a second common is to be added since outside rails are not connected on K-line shadow rail. ONE ADDITIONAL 40 IN SHADOW RAIL SECTION NEEDED FROM RICK/RICKY EARLY ON WORK DAY OR PRIOR TO REPLACE DAMAGED PIECE.
Yard Throat Modules. The wooden plexiglass slot material for quarter inch plexiglass has been purchased so we can add it to modules during work day. The plexiglass has NOT been purchased. Plan is to repair these modules. Specifics to be decided work day.
Velcro for curtains. Purchased 16 ft roll for use on new modules and can reuse that on old modules where it's just been stapled but not glued.
Additional Bridge Tracks. 16 ea one dozen packets of O gauge track pins (192 total) have been purchased and are on hand for use in building new K-line shadow rail bridge tracks. We have twenty pieces of new club owned track on hand. I think Scott has ten pieces and I have an additonal 10 pieces with black ties but the center rail is not blacked out in reserve. Will have a work station ready with pins, track and soldering iron for work day.
Additional Jones Plug Boxes. Purchased one dozen plastic boxes 6 X 3.5 X 1.25 inches for use on modules needing new boxes. Only size available without interior compartments. Two sets of jones plugs will fit easily.
Trailer Roof Caulk. NOT PURCHASED. Need someone who is coming to work day and know's what to get to purchase and bring.
Mark Plexiglass. Have permanent markers for this.
Mark Modules. Have permanent markers for this and have spray paint if we find stencils on trailer and want to do this.
Spare Tracks. We now have 9 pieces of lionel track, 38 inches, removed from the EF yard modules. Some is serviceable and can be carried as spares for emergency replacement or can be used elsewhere.
Module spacers. Have pretty good supply of 1 X 2's, 3's and 4's for use in redoing module spacers for better trailer loading and protection.
Misc Trailer interior improvements. Ditto. Have pretty good selection of left over plywood in addition to above for use as needed. And pretty good selection of nuts, bolts and wood and drywall screws.
These are the biggies I have on my list. I'm sure there are others and would like to hear from you if I have missed anything or if you have anything to add.
Look forward to seeing you at the Work Event.
Bill
