All aboard!
The Neill-Cochran House Museum is proud to present award-winning railroad photographer and train guru Kenneth Fitzgerald and The Iron Horse Gallops In at the Austin Steam Train Association.  A graduate of the University of Oklahoma, the Connecticut-raised Fitzgerald is the son of a veteran TWA pilot.  Running amok of the "Flying Fitzgeralds" of West Texas (his dad and four uncles all were professional pilots), he devoted his life, beginning at age 7,  to a different form of transportation -- trains.  While best known for his amazing photographs of everything associated with the rails -- including the workers themselves -- Mr. Fitzgerald is the author of numerous periodical articles and the book Dallas Then and Now.  His knowledge of the railroad will dazzle adults and children alike.

What was Texas like before and after the iron horse?  Find out Sunday!

The Iron Horse Gallops In will be held in a vintage excursion car at the Austin Steam Train Association, with refreshments beginning at 2:00 PM in an adjacent "bar car."  Space is limited, so please do reserve your seat in advance.

Contact the Neill-Cochran House Museum to reserve your seat by calling 512.478.2335 or e-mailing info@nchmuseum.org.  Directions are posted on the left and are available on the Neill-Cochran House Museum and the Austin Steam Train Association websites.

Dear Friends,

A world of possibilities opened up for Texas cities when the train came to town.  Imagine first seeing it steam into Austin, last among the major municipalities to receive service, with shipments of goods previously unavailable to the region and relatives who arrived intact compared with their states after a dusty, harrowing, and really, really long wagon trip.

As much as the train is still a conveyance for products, riding the rails is also a social event.  Even today, if you cross Texas or go beyond its borders, I'll wager that you'll make a new friend along the way.  Please join us for this program! We guarantee that you will leave with more than you brought and, yes, maybe even a new friend or two!

See you there!
cecille.

P.S.:  As always, this conversation is free to Friends members and only $10 for the general public.  See you at 2:00 for refreshments!
