DCS and Legacy Familiarization Session - Results
Hi Trackers,
If attendance is a criterion then the Session was a success with about 10 or so Trackers attending. Seems to me all had a great time.
We started at about 1 pm on Saturday, as advertised. We were about to wind down around 5 pm, as advertised, when we found out the Ricky and Adrian, who couldn't make the advertised hours, were now free and wanted to run trains. So, what the heck, we ordered a couple of pizzas and did a second shift from 5 pm to 10 pm!! How about that!!
Mid afternoon we got down to the business at hand. I started with a half hour or so informal session on TMCC and Legacy. Thankfully, Ira was here, and as our resident expert on DCS, he followed with a like session on DCS. Lots of good questions and interaction during the sessions. I know I learned some new things about DCS.
In the final analysis we all agreed that while tutorials have some value, there's no substitute for good old hands on "learning by doing". So, after the sessions we passed out the controllers to anyone interested and started running trains. It's safe to say several of us learned some new tricks. A couple of the guys made significant progress which should serve them well on the club layout. We'll continue the learning process at up coming shows and watch our expertise grow.
At one point in the late afternoon Mike did an impressive photo shoot, complete with a lighting system. Purpose was to get some pix for the new TTAT brochure he's developing. He showed us the the current draft and all who saw it seemed to think it already looks great!
A little later Rick and I collaborated and built a lash up consisting of our two Sunset 3rd Rail UP TMCC Big Boys. We built the lash-up using the Cab-2 Legacy Controller. It was a snap. Man, two Big Boys pulling a consist of stock cars. With the two locomotives measuring around 64 inches and with 32 drive wheels it was an awesome sight. And with each of the engines sound systems chuffing and out of sync like the real thing it was an awesome sound. Just like Sherman Hill, WY or Echo Canyon, UT. Yep. Again, building lashups in Legacy is a snap.
Anyway, thanks for your support and I hope you'll had a good time. Sorry the rest of you were otherwise engaged and couldn't make it. Maybe next time.
The fun a person can have running trains with friends!! Yep.
