Steve,
Your $1040 creates unneccessary Sticker Shock.
For about $250 -- when ready -- the Club can purchase just one Basic Legacy System and wire it into the layout. Then as more and more members also buy Legacy for our home layouts -- lots of extra CAB-2's will be available until the club can incrementally add them.
After all, we bring our trains to Club events. So, why not also just bring our CAB-2's?
We already have 4 individually owned CAB-2's. A Club System would make 5. Wa la!!
Yeah, I realize that not all members attend all events, but, time is on our side -- if we like the technology and it proves to be reliable.

Oh and when using the CAB-1 Controller-- even with Legacy connected -- you can still only select and control TRacks 1-9. The higher TR addresses (10 - 99) must be reached with a CAB-2. So the Legacy System "theoretically" eliminates both forms of interference with other clubs. Track Selection and Engine ID's. I predict that -- after prudently and carefully rolling Legacy out -- like companies in the real world do with new technology --the only real issue we will end up having is the $ cost of implementing it. Anyone want to bet against me? Easy money.
I agree. I think going to Legacy will be fairly smooth, and I vote for making this happen sooner rather than later. The cost will prolly be:
Retail prices:
#990 base+cab2 = $299.00
#993 cab2+charger = $249.00
Assuming a 20% discount, we're looking at ~$1040 + tax for the base and 5 remotes.
yow!
Better start saving our pennies...
