Re: Austin Model Railroad Jamboree

Hi Ira,

For some time now I've been mentioning testing the new Lionel Legacy TMCCII train control system on the club layout.  This is to offer to do so with my personal Legacy system at the Branch Creek Clubhouse during the Austin MR Jamboree.  We could connect and test it after the layout is set up on Friday afternoon and if it works flawlessly, as I expect it will, I can run my three Legacy locomotives (UP FEF #844, UP Big Boy #4023 and SP GS-4 Daylight 4-8-4 4436.) during the weekend on the day or days that I work our layout.

I think you and the other club directors are having your monthy meeting soon.  So, if my proposal needs discussion, request that you all do so at the meeting.  I'm hoping the answer is yes.

I find that the Legacy system runs standard TMCC I engines better than the TMCC 1 system .  And I feel that the new features that come with Legacy are a cut above TMCC1 and DCS.  I think it would be fun for the club members to try the system and will show the general public the new system and that our club is at the leading edge of the state of the art.

Legacy works flawlessly on my layout and interoperates seamlessly with TMCC 1 and MTH DCS. (I do have the usual DCS problems well documented in the on-line forums, but, had them before installing Legacy).  Legacy connects the same way as TMCC1 -- just one simple ground connection to the outside third rails -- which I can provide with a long lead with an alligator clip or spade lug.

I will be participating in the club's event at the clubhouse whether or not we do Legacy.  Sorry I can't attend the San Antonio Show coming up this weekend but I just got back from a two week trip riding the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad in NM and CO and then having a one-on-one tour of the fabled UP Steam Back Shop  and Roundhouse in Cheyenne, WY with Lynn Nystrom, an engineer and firemann on UP 844 and UP 3985.  The next day I followed UP 3985, with Lynn engineering,  a hundred miles or so.

After a short break here in Austin catching up, I'll be going to the fall TCA Eastern Division Meet in York, PA for three days.  The exhibit buildings probably add up to about ten times the size of the Live Oak Center.  Everyone should go to York once!

Finally, while I'm at it.  A while back I mentioned having a club Fun Run on my layout and just want to follow up and let you all know that I still want to do so.  My layout upgrade/redo is progressing nicely but is taking longer than I projected (always the case).  I'm hoping to be back in operation with the layout proven in and operating reliably by late fall or early winter.

Regards,
Bill Lohman

Hi,

We are going to set up the layout at the Branch Creek clubhouse for the
Austin Model Railroad Jamboree on October 25th and 26th.

Please look at your schedules and indicate your participation on the
event coordination document:

For those of you who are new to the club, the Austin Model Railroad Jamboree
is an annual event in the Austin area.  The actual event is held at the First United
Methodist Church in Round Rock.  We will be listed on the layout tour.  People
go to the church, see the vendors and seminars, then tour the various layouts
listed on the tour.  This is an opportunity for us to get some local visitors,
and maybe some new members for the club.

We will have the layout open to the public on both Saturday and Sunday, so if
you want to you can see the vendors area and seminars on Saturday morning,
see some of the layouts on Saturday afternoon, then participate with us on
Sunday.  Of course, we welcome anyone to run trains on the layout on either
Saturday or Sunday, and we need people to set up the layout on Friday
and tear it down on Sunday.

Naturally, I will nag you again as we get closer to the event date.  If people sign
up for the event earlier, I will nag less!

Thanks.

Ira
