Re: train show
Hi Bill,
I agree. That was an appropriate use of the Halt button.
In my opinion, if there is a derailment which threatens another train (i.e. your train
is spilling over onto the next track and a train is approaching), you should use
the Halt button.
If you simply have a runaway train, the Halt button is probably not the appropriate action.
You can always hit AUX1-0 for your track to stop your train.
There are no hard and fast rules. We simply have to use common sense.
If we hit the Halt button, it stops the entire layout. If the incident is isolated
to a single train, that is probably not a good response to the situation.
If the incident may spread to more trains, it is a good response.
We just have to remember that we are not running on our layouts at home, where
shutting down the layout only affects use. Shutting down the layout at a show
affects all four operators.
Of course, people do panic. We are all human. Shutting down the layout isn't the
end of the world. It only takes us a couple of minutes to recover. It is better
to err on the side of caution than risk more damage.
Again, Bill, I believe you were correct in using the Halt button in that situation.
