Re: Railroad Jamboree
Hi Kenneth,
Here is some information from the flyer for the Austin Model Railroad Jamboree:
The Austin Model Railroad Jamboree is on Saturday, October 27, 2007 at
the First United Methodist Church, 1004 N. Mays St., Round Rock, TX.
The train show is from 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM. The flyer doesn't list the admission
charge, but it is usually around $5 per person.
The layout tours are Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Detailed maps and times
will be provided at registration.
Here are some of my thoughts:
The train show consists of a dealers room where people have model railroad
equipment and related items for sale. There are also clinics (which start
around 9:00 AM). The train show is mostly of interest to people who
own and operate trains.
The layout tour consists of private layouts which are open to the public during
the day. They are operating layouts, which are interesting to see. The
layout tour itself is free. However, someone has to register at the train show
to get the map.
I would suggest that you go to the train show, pay your registration fee,
look around in the dealers room, and decide which layouts would be of interest
to your Cub Scouts. You can then meet the pack in the early afternoon and
see the layouts of interest. Of course, I would suggest coming to see our
layout (but, I am prejudiced).
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.
Have fun.
Ira
