Re: proposal for standard industry modules
Room in the trailer for non standard and non club modules raises some
other questions that need to be answered though.
Room is a possibility but I an not sure where off the top of my head.
Probably in front of or behind the switch modules or in a corner slot
until we have 8, could be made to work.
WE have seen over the years that he things in the trailer suffer some
wear and tear and are not always handled with the care that a members
handles his personal stuff that he has worked hard on. Therefore, non
standard modules ( ones that do not fit in with the rest of them) have
been discouraged from being stored in the trailer. Also, they may be
stored in a place that is in the way of accessing the other modules.
I am not on the board who will make the decision when asked so my
comments are reflective of the past situation and do not say what could
be done now. However, it must also be considered that the club would not
want to give preferential treatment to one member over others.

One
more consideration is that we can implement turnouts for sidings from
track 4 immediately and without modification to existing modules or
requiring special modules by inserting a standard Lionel switch in lieu
of a bridge track. A siding module could be designed to connect up to
that spur with the industry set up. Theyy would be useable in any
location around the layout, from position D or E. they could cut across
the corner modules. If Steve's set up had track at 45 degrees then they
would fit both scenarios.
The curve would be O31 but with short sidings Cars should make it around
the corner except the longest ( Aluminium passenger cars clear standard
switches).
Just more ideas
If I can get myself up there, I will bring a switch and show some of the
things that can be done with this simple technique.
