Folks; Instead of trying to solve this by email, the board already has setup a committee to look at the track power issue. So lets drop the email chain. The committee will focus on find the basic problem and the appropriate solution as part of its charter to update the wiring standard for the modules.

Maybe suggesting a DPDT switch was putting the cart before the horse.Regardless of the solutions, we need to look at what it takes to operate trains in DCS and TMCC and adress the issues so that it is easier (less frustrating) and more fun for all.Let's keep thinking of ideas but keep in mind we have to address both command systems we have on the layout.Ed----- Original Message ----From: Ira Schneider <ira_schneider@Iname.com>To: "ttat-members@aoot.com" <ttat-members@aoot.com>Sent: Wednesday, January 31, 2007 10:41:51 PMSubject: Re: SAMRA Show Jan. 27th-28thScott,
The power currently goes from the transformer to the TPC, then the TIU, then to the track.
Putting a switch between the transformer and the TPC/TIU only cuts out the TPC.
In order to select the TPC vs TIU to power the track, the switch would have to go between the track input line and the output of the TPC and the TIU. This would send the DCS signal from the TIU through the switch to the track, possibly degrading the signal.
I am particularly concerned about putting a switch between the TIU and the track because, as you may already know, the MTH DCS system cannot detect a Protosound 2.0 engine on any of the sidings. I suspect the problem is either the toggle switches in the siding control box or the relay (used to interrupt power to the sidings when the DIR button is pressed). They both intercept the power flow between the TIU and the sidings.
