Please share the following event information with HALS members and anyone else you think might be interested. There are four big events happening during the next three months that are designed specifically for the railfan and rail historian. I do not have a large publicity budget so your help with putting out the word would be much appreciated. A strong showing from the railfan community will prove to the last remaining doubters that the railroad exhibit was a good idea. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.
#1 Saturday, March 18th -- The Bush Library is sponsoring a tour of staged train wreck at the Brayton Fire School. A PowerPoint discussion of the school and what they do will be included. Participants will be bused to the school (a five minute ride) and then be dropped off at the staged train wrecks (passenger and freight). Photography will be encouraged. The cost is $5 per person and tickets will be available at the admissions desk. A bus will depart from the Bush Library at 10:30 and again at 2:00. The tour will last about 90 minutes. For reservations, call 979-691-4014 or e-mail Tracy.Johnson@nara.gov For additional details see http://bushlibrary.tamu.edu/trains/special_events.php (second item down)
#2 Saturday, March 18th -- The Bush Library will host National Railway Historical Society Day (NRHS Day). The NRHS North Texas Chapter and Gulf Coast Chapter are coordinating this event and are providing buses from Dallas and Houston. Tickets will be available from those ! chapters. A limited number of tickets will also be available at the door for $20 each (includes lunch). The program features Steve Goen talk
ing about Texas passenger service and Leonard Ruback discussing the Union pacific 4141 and railfanning in the Brazos Valley. A BBQ lunch will be included. You do NOT need to be an NRHS member to attend.
