RE: New Braunfels
Scott,
Hugh and I have been on vacation for the past three weeks, which accounts for our lack of replies. We would have been happy to participate in N.B. but, c'est la vie.
We will try to get out to the Railyard next Saturday for a few hours. We have taken a lot of pictures of trains great and small, but as we are having some problems with our new camera, there is no guarantee we will ever be able to share any of them.
I saw a contrast between the waning interest in our club and a few of the clubs we visited. The most vibrant clubs have permanent, high quality layouts situated where they provide valuable traffic for commercial or municipal concerns (e.g. museums, botanical gardens). I did not inspect the books, but from discussions I have had, I suspect that the club members need only provide the layout and trains, and the attraction value pays the rest of the bills.
Hugh's interest has caused more than one comment that the clubs all look for more young members. This may take some active efforts on the part of the old guard, but I think we could attract members if we tried.
Too bad about New Braunfels. I will be sure to sign us up early for the next show.
Regards,
Mike

Due to the resounding lack of interest, Our participation in the Aug. 21 New Braunfels show is here by cancelled. We will leave the layout up at he railyard and get together that day in Cedar Park. For those of you that have not made it to the Railyard, you should plan to drop by some week end. We have typically had 5 or 6 members and several people dropping by. This means that we will not be tearing down the layout on the 14th. We will schedule a day to take down before the Temple show in Sept.
Scott
