Re: welcome Mike and Hugh Pauwels

We had a great time in Temple with Mike and Hugh. Hugh did a great job
running trains and helping with the layout takedown. They both are a
real good addition to the club.

Also please welcome as a new member:

Norm Anderson (wife Coral)

norm36@omniglobal.net
coral36@pocketmail.com while on the road.

We hope to see them in Flatonia. Norm runs a lot of prewar stuff.

Brief summary on Temple:

I think every one got enough track time over the 2 days. Did not seem to
be much backlog of people waiting. Layout was 2x7, everyone liked it.
It had been 3 years since we were at Temple and they had not seen some of
the newer additions like the sidings. Ed brought his bridge and made the
front page of the Temple Sunday paper. Tracked work very well, we took
as little extra time on set up and used legs of all the same length,
except for one curve on track 3. Mike has taken a club module home to
update it as his club project instead of building a module. New Track,
fix plug, possibly scenic.

Since I think this will now reach you , I will just send this information
out to you through the club.

Regarding the updating of the module:

If you can find Kline 40" track, it works better than Lionel because it
has uniform tie spacing in lieu of the 10" straight pattern on a Lionel.
When you cut 2" off to be the needed 38", this is important. Let me know
if you can not find these, and maybe the club will order another box of
track.

Remember that the track is to be 5" from the end of the wood on each end
so measure the deck and frame before you cut the track. i have found
that a first cut close and then the final cut with a dremel cut off wheel
works well if you have that.

Black is ground, the outside rails. Wires are soldered onto the rails.
I think the web site has some of the wiring conventions by color. We
will need to check it out for continuity and shorts when you are done.

Be careful with the long straights, some seem to have a bow in them and
should be straightened before you put them down. Measure spacing at both
ends

You can remove the sliding door system, as much as possible, to reduce
weight if you can add the plastic boxes. Michaels had he best and
cheapest. Just cut a whole in one end for the wires to go in.

Thanks.

Any other pointers?

Scott
