L Shaped Layout
I did a little thinking about using the new corners to build an L-shaped layout and I don't see how it can work.
Look at the attached diagram. (I apologize for the crudeness of the diagram.) This is a simple L-shaped
layout made up of 48" straight tracks (like our standard modules) and 72" diameter curves.
If you add up the dimensions along the top you get 264". Now add up the dimensions along the
bottom and the horizontal section of the bulge - you get 192" plus the red straight section - which has
to be 72" wide, not a multiple of 48". Similarly, the right side comes out to 240", while the left side
comes out to 72" plus the red section - which has to be 168", again not a multiple of the
standard 48" straights in this layout.
If I can't even get the numbers to add up with this simple layout, how can we assemble a layout
with 4 mainline tracks where the corners have varying diameters? Or, did I make some major mistake
in my assumptions?
I would be happy to see how this could work. I think it is a great idea to be able to build something
other than our standard oval layout.
