Corner Modules/Other To Do Items

It looks like we'll have several items to work on this week-end. Besides
trying to resolve the electrical problems we'll probably get a preview of
the power box that Ira has built plus we have other items we can work on
from the 'To Do List' that is on the club's web site.

One of the items on the 'To Do' List is to build two more corner modules.
This would make four corner modules that belong to the club plus the two
corners that belong to Jim. With the additional two corners we could make a
variety of layouts and be more flexible as to the amount of space we need at
shows.

Ed volunteered to come up with specs for the additional two corner modules
and has done some research on the amount/type of track that we will need.
(I think a draft copy of the module specs are on the club's web site.)

Since money is always an issue with the club I've asked Ed to do a quick
estimate on the cost of the project and what type of track he plans on
using.  Here's what he's found.

First, I chose K-Line because it is available in more sizes than Lionel and
equivalent in quality.
Then I looked at the differences in price between the shadow rail and the
regular "O-Gauge" track and found that for 2 Corner Modules the price
difference in List price was only $23 ($156 vs. $133). For that $23 you
get insulated outside rails for signals or accessories and more realistic
looking track with a blackened center rail and plastic ties. I rounded up
the price to $175 to cover shipping and buying a few extra pieces. I should
be able to get a 10% discount off list price for the track.

The quantities I estimate we will for 2 corners are:
16 - O96
20 - O72
4 - O54
This does not include bridge tracks, and I would buy one or two extra of
different sizes that may need to be cut.

The five curves would be made up as follows:
A = O96, O96, O96, O96
B = 1/2O96, O96, O72, O96, 1/2O96
C = 1/2O72, O72, O96, O72, 1/2O72
D = O72, O72, O72, O72
E = O72, O54, O54, O72

Any comments/questions? We can also discuss this more at our work day and
SAMRA Show.

Reminder: The club's finances are getting better but we're still limited.
Please come up with an estimate of the cost before you take on a major
project that will require the club to reimburse you. We want to make sure
we can cover your costs.

Thanks--Ron
