Re: call for newsletter fodder

Suggest a thank you to Ira's wife, dollars raised in raffle, new member Ed
Weltens Sr, future repair work by you and Scott on modules, Adrian's parents
visit, Randall's Mom and friend Terry (both Randall and Terry work at KVUE as
engineers), adds PICS of Flatonia on website, how great the layout looked,
Ed' Bridge modules, your repair to whatever to solve command problems from
Flatonia, cab forward purchase by editor, Tommy Shults efforts is bring the
trains to Flatonia, We've been invited back, Tommy has a UP caboose and
passenger coach donated to Flatonia and waiting for a track to be built near
tower for permanent home, also planning RV park and observation area a UP
diamond, 700 plus visitors to layouts per Tommy's wife over two days, success
of 4x8 at the Jamboree.

Jamboree...

We were is separate room where an n scale group was last year. I was worried
about traffic flow because I thought we were to be on the stage (alter). It
worked out great. Scott ran trains for 15-20 minutes and then the kids came
and took over. Kids were all ages including several with gray hair. Got
several interested new member prospects (see separate message when I get you
list for a count).

Scott, Bob, Rick, Ricky, Randall and Ryan all worked the room and ran trains.
Randall's Mom and friend Cynthia (SP?) were there also.

Tons of Kids came thru...many more visitors than in my history at BCE. Had
lots of chairs set up for parents and grandparents to watch.

Other one liners...new short - 24 inch -- legs on 4x8. Adrian and I learned
by accident at the Dripping Springs Cub Scout event how much better it was to
have layout at kid height. We had put layout on low tables to save setup
time.

Operating/accessories included what you saw at my house...rotating beacon,
station, crossing lights, block signal, and signal bridge. Scott brought
operating flagman with button for kids to operate plus a ton of buildings,
cars, working oil derrick, and other stuff from when he was a kid...check w/
Scott for other items. I think Randall took PICS of layout and crowd...check
with him.

My old ZW 275 ran all day (actually way to much power). Scott found an
inexpensive transformer (I paid for it) for me to mount on board. Will look
for another so ZW will only need to be back up.

Trains/engines from Scott, Steve, Rick and Randall...I just had cars there
which I don't think ever ran. Steam from Steve, Scott, and Rick; Tommy the
tank (Scott) plus diesels from Randall (ACL), Scott (ATSF) and UP Pass set
from Rick. Everything ran well except one steam from Rick had a problem with
crossover now and then.

Rick had long steam train on inside loop so engine got around loop just after
caboose cleared crossing...looked like a crash coming...again very exciting
to kids.

Only a couple of crashes, nothing went to floor. Late in day a small
short...looked like a fire...in wiring (oil derrick and station)...non taped
wires shorted...no big deal..but was exciting to visitors. Rick had a

Other stuff...

Rick and Ricky were going to Houston (Sub 10/27) to chase UP steam
(Challenger?) around Texas...get details from them.

Ryan new member (Randall) already active participant...Randall and friend
Terry Mc Guirk SP? helped level at setup and Randall had idea for different
crystals in cab units, etc.

Scott took 4x8 to Cub Scout big pack event...70 plus kids...I don't have
details. I believe he make excellent presentation...demo'd all scales...n,
ho, s o, and g. I trying to do smiler at Dripping Springs with Adrian.

Most of this you were probably doing anyway.
