Everything I read in the online standards and everything I know about geometry says that we only need two matching corners that are opposite of each other.

This is a good point.  However, if new larger corners were put diagonally
across the layout, would the rest still connect up correctly with only
two new ones???
Large radii curves are now available from Kline and we could use
combination curves to get it to fit.  Good points Rick.
