web site down temporarily

Our TTAT web site is currently down due to trainweb.org loosing a disk.
Here is the latest status of their problems.

As of Monday, September 24, 2001, the www.trainweb.org server is down. It is
possible that the server may have also been down for much of the last two
days, Saturday and Sunday, September 22 and 23.

If you are trying to visit a non-commercial website hosted at TrainWeb, that
website is probably on the web server that is down.

Our technical staff is working on the www.trainweb.org server right now. It
turns out that there were a number of bad sectors on one of the disk drives.
We are in the process of replacing that disk drive right now. However, this
process is going to take some time. We are going to have to re-install the
operating system and restore all the data from our backup tapes. The backup
tapes were made on Friday evening. Since the system seems to have been down
for Saturday and Sunday, these tapes should be pretty complete. An initial
check of the tapes shows that they seem to be a proper backup from Friday.
We should have everything we need to restore the www.trainweb.org server on
the new disk.

This is probably going to take the rest of today and most of tomorrow,
Tuesday, September 25. Thus, the www.trainweb.org server will probably not
be up until late Tuesday. Please check back to this page periodically for
updates. We apologize for the inconvenience.
