Here’s some news you may want to share with your e-mail list. Three streamlined passenger cars from the Burlington’s Texas Zephyr have been purchased by William Osborn of Austin and are being moved from South Dakota. They will be placed on his property at 9300 US 290 West next to the relocated San Saba depot, where they will be restored and rented for office space.
The observation car was the first to be moved. One of the aattached pictures shows the 1961 appearance, with a red neon tailsign which will be restored. The second attachment is how the car looked when new, when it served the Denver Zephyr between Chicago and Denver. In 1957 it was reassigned to the Texas Zephyr, overnight between Denver and Dallas, which happens to be one of the trains I operate on my layout. Other attachments show the cover of the cocktail menu from 1943 and an interior view.
Here’s a short video of the observation car being trucked down the highway in South Dakota.
