From one of my Bethany UMC train buddies… He said the rebuild will probably cost upwards of $5,000,000. Funded by UP over the next several years.

Happy Sunday to all,

I am a member of the Southern California chapter of the Railway & Locomotive Historical society, and after a lone terrible battle among ourselves, we finally voted to let the UP Big Boy #4014 to go back to the Union Pacific so that they could rebuild and operate her on the main line throughout their system. The UP is on the Pomona Fair Grounds now making her ready for travel back to Wyoming to their steam shop for rebuilding. Attached are two photos of the work going on. It’s going to be quite a job preparing her to move back all that distance. I’m glad I’m retired! ~Joe Dale

So they can rebuild it to run after 52 years on static display in Pomona CA.
