UP Big Boy #4014
The Railway and Locomotive Historical
Society, Southern California Chapter and Union Pacific Railroad today
announced agreement for return of Big Boy steam locomotive #4014 to
Union Pacific.
Union Pacific intends to restore and operate #4014 as part of its
Heritage Locomotive fleet. The locomotive is planned to be moved to
Cheyenne, Wyoming, for restoration by Union Pacific’s Heritage Fleet
Operations team. Further details will be released as they are
available.
Our Board of Directors decided to return the locomotive to Union Pacific
for restoration and operation because it will be the best way to
preserve this locomotive for future generations of railfans and students
of railroad history. The R&LHS Chapter’s goals to encourage
interest in railroad history and to preserve railroad equipment would be
manifested by Union Pacific’s operation of Big Boy locomotive #4014.
This will be the best way for more people to see it, feel it, hear it,
and learn about this awesome machine and its place in American history.
We are excited to be working with Union Pacific to achieve the restoration of Big Boy #4014.

We do not yet know when Big Boy #4014 will leave RailGiants Train Museum
at the fairgrounds in Pomona. However, we expect the Big Boy will
remain (where it is today) through the end of the 2013 Los Angeles
County Fair in September.
We will not answer questions posted on this site. However, questions can be submitted to us on our website http://railgiants.org/contact-us.php
