Curtain Call Train Trip
Our Celebrate Summer train trips were so much fun this summer that the Railroad and Heritage Museum has decided to continue in similar theme. We are presenting another train trip on October 12-13, 2012. Adult guests may join us for an overnight weekend – “Curtain Call Train Trip”. Cost is $125.00 per person, based on double occupancy. This includes your train fare, hotel accommodations and theater tickets.
The definition of a curtain call is an appearance by performers at the end of a play in order to acknowledge the applause of the audience. This encore trip is the applause for each of the families and supporters of the museum.
Once more, Cleburne, Texas is our destination. As done previously, we will greet our guests in the lobby of the Santa Fe Depot. Check in begins at 10:30 am for our anticipated departure of 11:25 am on the Texas Eagle.
On arrival in Cleburne, the Chamber of Commerce, will welcome us and arrange to have transportation available with the city’s Cletran bus service. They will provide us with a short bus ride, bringing us to our next stop, the Liberty Hotel – our overnight destination. History for this hotel began in 1924 when it officially opened on December 30, 1924. Over many years, it has undergone diverse changes. Now, recently renovated, it is once more a beautiful destination hotel. As guests in Cleburne, you are within walking distance to local restaurants, shopping and the Plaza Theater.
Friday evening we will attend the Plaza Theater production of “Arsenic and Old Lace”. The story is a “farcical comedy based around Mortimer Brewster, a drama critic who must deal with his crazy, homicidal family and local police in Brooklyn, NY”. The original play was penned as a comedy in 1939 by the playwright, Joseph Kesselring. Premise for the play is based, in part, by the real life story of Amy Archer-Gilligan, who was a “clever serial killer who is said to have killed between 20 -100, including some of her husbands”.
Saturday morning, guests may choose to enjoy a complimentary continental breakfast in the Liberty Hotel dining area. After breakfast, travelers will have free time for exploration and shopping.
The scheduled departure is 2:52 pm on Saturday afternoon with arrival in Temple just prior to 5:00 pm. All travel times are based on Amtrak scheduling, and schedules are subject to change without prior notice.
