Subject: Show and tell night, September 7,
2012
We are starting something new that will be for Museum
members, members of the other museums and the general public who are
interested. The show will begin at 7:15 sharp in the Railroad Museum
Dining Car. The maximum capacity of the dining car is 50 people.
First come, first served. If this activity proves popular, we can rotate
meeting at the various museums.
We will present five "showers" who
will have a maximum of 20 minutes to present, tell and answer questions.
Subject matter will be limited to normal items found in any of the four museums
and should be at least 100 years old that contributed to the improvement of
life.
I will show and tell about the beginning of telegraphy on
the railroads and the development of the telegraph key and bug. I have a
somewhat rare "Mecograph" and "Vibroplex" bugs. (a bug is the name given to an
advanced key design that produced the dot automatically. Old time
operators felt that this was cheating and named the device a bug, a not very
nice term in those days). If you are interested in being a shower, please
call or email me about you subject. Again first come first served.
