Re: Layout for SAMRA Model Railroad Jamboree

Hi Ricky,

Attached is a second pass at the SAMRA layout.

Perhaps you didn't realize, but I do tend to keep similar groups of scenery modules
together, where feasible. In the orginal diagram, your three setf of city scenes
were behind BX2, B1, and BX1. Some of Scott's scenery was next to yours,
which was the only place it really fit.

Since the carnival modules are not going to be at the show, I moved
Scott's city scenes to their former spot and moved your scenery over
to be adjacent to the 90 degree corner.

I understand your desire to separate the different types of scenery. Bill
appears to be even more enthusiastic about this idea. However, from
my observations, most of the visitors to the layout (i.e. the visitors at
the show) don't even know we are O-gauge, let alone understand the
difference between scale and "tinplate" sizes of trains or scenery.
The only people who would understand the difference are O-gauge
hobbyists, and these shows don't attract many of them.
In fact, this is the first time I have every heard anyone talk about
us having different classes of scenery which should be segregated.

I have no problem with taking concrete suggestions about changes to
any layout I propose. Also, the Fat controller for setup (in this case,
David) is free to choose any layout design he wants, whether it be one
that I propose or one someone else proposes. If you or Bill (or anyone
else) wants to design a layout for a show, be my guest. Just make sure
the layout fits the size required by the sponsoring organization, uses
only the the set of modules which actually exist, and satisfies the
requirements of all people bringing scenery and/or mainline modules.
For example, you suggested that we design a triangle for the SAMRA
show. That might be an interesting idea, but they asked us for an L-shape
with a specific size.

Please let me know if you would like any other changes to my proposed
layout, or if you will design an alternative layout, either from scratch
or using one of my proposals as a starting point.

Good luck and have fun at the show.

Ira
