Re: Layout for SAMRA Model Railroad Jamboree

Wow!!  Ricky's idea to do our best to keep all the more realistic, scale modules and scenes together on one side and the tinplate or toy train modules and accessories together on the other side is excellent.  I'm hoping that the Board will adopt this as layout design objective #1 in the future.

Separate areas will concentrate the fun for spectators and club members who like the toy train accessories and ditto for those who enjoy more realism.

I can just see the heightened wonderment in the eyes of the children, moms, pops and grandparents with all the toy train accessories and modules concentrated in one area.  And it will be a bigger draw for the more scale oriented spectators (from all scales) and more fun for our members who lean in that direction.

Ira,

I suggest that you switch C7 for C5 so I can put in my corner scenery module and most of Scott's stuff will be all together. The Harry Potter module can go behind the 45's up by the yard or even next to the carnival and the power. I can add in another city module there and go all the way across the layout.

I think we need to look at keeping similar scenery modules together and not just randomly plugging them in where ever. Maybe keep all the "scale" looking stuff together on one side of the layout and all the "tinplate" together on the other side of the layout. I uderstand though that sometimes the dynamics of the venue and the size of the layout may make that harder to do.

I wonder though, with where we are in the building if we couldn't get away with doing a triangle instead of an L. That way we could utilize more of the straight modules and possibly put in more stuff like the industry modules. That would have to be discussed with Ralph when we get down there Friday.

Subject: Layout for SAMRA Model Railroad Jamboree

Hi,

Attached is the first pass at the layout for next week's SAMRA Model Railroad
Jamboree.

I believe this layout incorporates all of the scenery modules listed in the
event coordination document. With this layout design, there will be
scenery behind almost every module on the layout. The only open
module is D5. Also, a scenery module could go behind the inside corner.

Please let me know if you have any other requirements which are not
listed on the event coordination document.

I am not sure where Ricky's triangular city scene modules would fit.
They could go behind C8 or C5, but these modules are not adjacent to
a linear module for a city scene. I might be able to shuffle the modules
at the top of the diagram so Ricky's city scenes and station are at the
right side so C7 (which would be swapped with a different corner) could
host the triangular module.

Please send me any suggestions you have. I will do my best to
accomodate all requests.

Thanks.

Ira
