Dear Club Members, My name is Mike Rodgers, and over the past 5 years I have been working on a book about railroad facilities. The book, titled "Rail Fan's Field Guide To Railroad Infrastructure" which is a compilation of accumulated information and knowledge, is now complete. This book like the railroad industry itself is a no nonsense publication. It has been well received in railroad museum gift shops and at recent book signings. I think members of railroad clubs, whether they be model or actual size, would also would find the book informative. I have been directly involved with the railroad industry as employee, consultant and fan for more than 45 years. I am a Professional Land Surveyor licensed in NY, OH and PA. My involvement with various railroads has been as rodman, bridge and building engineer, layout engineer, senior civil engineer, engineering consultant and finally as owner of a land surveying business in New York State contracting with Conrail, CSX, Amtrak and their consultants.. Briefly, the book covers Right of Way, Maintenance of Way, Basics of Track Construction from subgrade to track safety standards, Bridges, Signs, Signals, Track Geometry, Yards, Electrified Territory, Track Equipment, Track Gangs, Buildings and Safety. There is also a section with Acronyms and Abbreviations and a section with Definitions. The book is a handy size of 4 1/4" x 7" with 208 pages: 134 pages of text and 74 pages of my illustrations and photographs. If this sounds like something your club or your members might be interested in I would be happy to send you more information about the book.
