Re: Good News! New MTH DCS System Works Great

Neat!  I wonder how it would perform on my dcs-unfriendly bus wired layout?

hmm...

Hi Trackers,

Here's some good news for those of you who might have been experiencing trouble with your MTH DCS Proto  2 (PS-2) engines.

Sometime earlier this  year MTH began shipping a completely re-designed DCS Track Interface Unit (TIU) as a stand alone item or as part of a set with a remote handheld.  The handheld remote was NOT redesigned and so the original remotes can be used with the new TIU.

This new TIU is known as the "Rev L" TIU.  If you purchase one it's important to make sure you get a Rev L TIU as the older ones are still in dealer inventories.

As some of you know  the original DCS with Proto 2 Engines performed so poorly on my layout that I just gave up on it and removed it.

Well, I just purchased and installed a new complete set, Rev L TIU and hand held remote.  It works flawlessly!  Finds engines anywhere on the layout all the time and has perfect 10 signal strengths anywhere on the layout except an occasional 9 or 8 over switches which is understandable.  I use to get values ranging from none to 1's, 3's and 6's and an occasionally higher.  Huge improvement.

The Rev L TIU has a couple of interesting hardware features.  The common/ground connections for each of the four channels are no longer tied together.  And a USB port has been added for connecting your PC to do downloads using a standard PC to peripheral USB Cable.

Both the Rev L TIU and my new remote came with software version 4.20 loaded.
