Urban Rail Vehicle in Austin on August 11

Image removed by sender. railcar.pngStreetcar manufacturer Kinkisharyo will bring their latest vehicle to Austin on Thursday, August 11 for a public viewing. Between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., the streetcar will be on display at 4th Street at Brush Square Park, just north of the Convention Center.

The manufacturer, one of only two U.S.-made urban rail cars, recently unveiled their newest vehicle called the ameriTRAM and will travel to Austin next week to give interested parties a first-hand look. The visit is part of a national summer tour. "This is a great opportunity to review some of the latest vehicle technology and to see up-close what the future of Austin's urban transportation could look like," said Mayor Lee Leffingwell.

The City of Austin is continuing its Urban Rail planning efforts and officially began in April the process of preparing an environmental impact statement (EIS) for the City's proposed urban rail system.

Vehicle parking will be available at the Convention Center and bicycle parking is available outside the building. You may also attend the event using the Capital Metro Red Line or bus service. Click here to view transit schedules.
