Re: Grand Opening of Hearne Train Museum

I remember chasing it. And I think Ricky almost lost his car chasing it. :)

I think we can move the work day to attend something like this. A few
years back this is where the UP Challenger was as close as it came to
Austin.

The layout size would be about 14' x 22' (1 x 3) or 18' x 22' (2 x

I checked on MapQuest and Hearne is about 80 miles east of Austin,
straight down 79.
It estimates a travel time of about an hour an a half from my house
(in north Austin).
That is around the same time it takes me to get to Live Oak.

I have no problem with going to Hearne for the weekend. We picked
that day for the work
day out of a hat. There should be no problem rescheduling the work
day.

All that being said, is it worth our trouble to set up a small
layout for the weekend with
no compensation? In the past, we have always gotten some
compensation to at least
pay for our towing costs. The only time we went to a show recently
with no compensation
was for a TCA train meet where we knew there would be lots of
O-gauge interest (and dealers).

Who else will be at this grand opening? Will there be any dealers
or other train clubs?
What kind of turnout is expected? Could we hold a raffle and, if
so, what are our chances
of making a profit?

In my opinion, this event is worth further investigation. If there
is enough support for our
participation, you can count me in.
